“Black people continue to face stark and persistent inequalities in mental health care. They are less likely to access care early, and more likely to encounter services through crisis and criminal justice routes.”

The crisis we cannot ignore
Men’s mental health in the UK is in crisis and Black, African, Caribbean and minority ethnic men face uniquely compounding barriers that put them at significantly higher risk. The evidence is stark, consistent, and urgent.
Despite this, services designed for our communities remain scarce. Africarn’s November programme exists to fill that gap with community-first, culturally grounded, stigma-free support for men who too often suffer in silence.
Behind these statistics are real men in our community fathers, brothers, sons who are not getting the help they need. Cultural stigma around mental health, systemic racism within services, economic pressure, and a lack of culturally competent provision mean that too many Black men suffer in silence until crisis hits.
Africarn’s Black Mind Men’s Mental Health Month is designed to reach men before crisis with peer-led support, culturally grounded conversations, and practical pathways into care.
