Africarn Women initiative

Africarn Women Initiative is a dedicated initiative within the Africarn network created to celebrate, support, and invest in Black, African, and Afro-Caribbean women and girls. It is a space where women are not an afterthought. Where their experiences, ambitions, and wellbeing are the starting point for everything we do.

About the initiative

Women of Africarn is a dedicated initiative within the Africarn network created to celebrate, support, and invest in Black, African, and Afro-Caribbean women and girls. It is a space where women are not an afterthought. Where their experiences, ambitions, and wellbeing are the starting point for everything we do.

We know that Black women and girls face intersecting challenges that too often go unaddressed — in workplaces, in healthcare settings, in educational institutions, and in the wider community. Women of Africarn exists to change that. Not through grand gestures, but through consistent, community-rooted support that meets women where they are and walks alongside them toward where they want to be.

This is a space built on trust, solidarity, and the deep belief that when Black women thrive, whole communities rise with them.

What we stand for

Women of Africarn is grounded in five pillars that reflect what our community told us matters most.

Leadership and Empowerment

We believe Black women are already leaders — in their homes, their workplaces, and their communities. Through mentorship, coaching, and leadership development, we create the conditions for women to step fully into those roles, with confidence, visibility, and people behind them.

Economic and Financial Independence

Financial freedom changes everything. We offer practical guidance, workshops, and connections to help women build economic independence on their own terms — whether through employment, entrepreneurship, or simply getting a stronger grip on their finances.

Health and Wellbeing

Black women’s health matters, and we say that without qualification. We centre physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, holding space for the honest conversations that don’t always happen elsewhere, and connecting women with support that actually feels relevant to their lives.

Community and Sisterhood

There is something irreplaceable about being in a room full of women who just get it. Women of Africarn builds genuine community — spaces to connect, share, celebrate, grieve, laugh, and hold each other up without needing to explain yourself first.

Education and Skills

Learning is lifelong, and growth looks different for everyone. We support women at every stage of their journey, equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to go further — whatever further looks like for them.

Who it’s for

Women of Africarn is for Black, African, and Afro-Caribbean women and girls of all ages and all stages of life. Whether you’re a young woman finding your footing, a professional navigating your career, a mother holding everything together, or an elder with a lifetime of wisdom to offer — you belong here. No woman is too early in her journey or too far along to benefit from community.

Our commitment

We do not just talk about empowerment. We try to create the conditions for it. Every programme, event, and conversation within Women of Africarn is designed with care and deep respect for the women it serves. We listen before we build. We include before we speak. And we never lose sight of the fact that behind every initiative is a real woman, with a real life, who deserves real support.

Part of the Africarn network

Women of Africarn is a proud initiative of Africarn, a community-led organisation dedicated to the wellbeing, advancement, and celebration of Black, African, and Afro-Caribbean people. Our work does not exist in isolation. It is strengthened by the broader Africarn family and the values that run through everything we do.

“When Black women are supported, seen, and free to lead — everything changes.”
